Clicking away through NY/London/Milan and Paris Fashion Week I get the message. Loud and clear: get your 90s sleek on!
We seem to have evolved passed the grungy/sporty part of the 90s – seeyah Notorious B.I.G – and are about to embark on the sleek Jil Sandery part of the 90s.
(Beginning to feel my fashion radar was totally off, never really having paid much attention to recycling the 90s in particular, now it turns out it’s the number one era on everyone’s mind…
But perhaps that’s merely normal seeing as I was in my teenage years back when which in hindsight were the un-coolest years of your life.)
Coming to think of it, the Fashion world as we know it today really was born and given its outlines and standards right there and then. It was in the 90s that Carine Roitfeld, Tom Ford, Jil Sander, Helmut Lang, Mario Testino and Co created a whole new look and feel associated with fashion. As a child of the 90s I grew up on the infamous Gucci Campaigns shot by Testino, styled by Roitfeld, which forever changed and influenced the way of design, photography, styling, advertising and ultimately my (generation’s) style forever.
Now I think these images speak for themselves, we all got the memo: Sleek clothing and even sleeker hair! BOOM! My faves being Narcisco Rodriguez & Theyskens Theory.
SS 2014 here we come!!
